Getting started

Connect a social account to a brand

Channels belong to a brand, not to you. Connect them from Brands & channels, and only owners and editors can add or remove them. Here is what each network needs before it will let PlanSend publish.

How to connect one

  1. Switch to the brand in the workspace picker at the top of the sidebar.
  2. Open Brands & channels, then Manage for that brand.
  3. Select the network you want. Facebook, Instagram, Threads and LinkedIn open the network's own login screen; Bluesky and Mastodon use a short form on the page.
  4. Approve the permissions the network shows you, and you land back on the channels page with the account connected.

Connecting again later is a reconnect, not a new channel: PlanSend matches the account you already had, refreshes its credentials and does not use another channel slot from your plan.

Facebook Pages

You need to be an admin of the Page. PlanSend asks Facebook for the list of Pages you manage, permission to publish to the Pages you pick, and permission to read those Pages' content so it can confirm a post went live.

Nothing is saved on the first step. After the Facebook login, PlanSend shows every Page and Instagram account Facebook shared and asks you to tick the ones this brand publishes to. Cancel at that point and no credentials are kept.

Instagram

Instagram uses the same Facebook login. Two things must be true on Instagram's side:

  • The account is a professional account — Business or Creator. Personal accounts cannot be published to by any tool.
  • It is linked to a Facebook Page you manage. Link it in the Instagram app under Settings, then Business tools.

If the chooser says none of your Pages has an Instagram professional account linked, fix the link in Instagram and connect again.

Threads

Threads is a separate connection from Facebook and Instagram, with its own login. PlanSend asks only for basic profile information and permission to publish. One Threads account becomes one channel, named after your handle.

LinkedIn

Signing in connects your personal LinkedIn profile as a channel. Publishing to LinkedIn company pages needs LinkedIn's Community Management API, which we have applied for; until that is granted, company pages do not appear during the connect flow.

LinkedIn access lasts 60 days. PlanSend emails you before it runs out so you can reconnect in a minute.

Bluesky

No developer application and no waiting. You need two things:

  1. Your full handle, such as yourname.bsky.social.
  2. An app password, created in Bluesky under Settings, then Privacy and security, then App passwords. It looks like xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.

Use an app password, not your account password: PlanSend rejects anything shorter than eight characters, and an app password can be revoked in Bluesky at any time without changing your login.

Mastodon

Type your instance, such as mastodon.social, and PlanSend registers itself on that server and sends you to its own approval screen. It works with any instance. Mastodon access does not expire; it stops only if you remove PlanSend under Preferences, then Account, then Authorized apps.

PlanSend reads your instance's own character limit when you connect, so the composer counts against the real limit rather than the default 500.

Networks that are not open yet

These are built and tested, and they open as each platform finishes reviewing our application. We would rather say so plainly than let you schedule into a network that cannot publish.

NetworkWhere it stands
Facebook, Instagram, ThreadsBuilt and working. Meta's review of our app is in progress; until it completes, only accounts we have added as testers can be connected. If a connection is refused for a permissions reason, email us and we will tell you where the review stands.
LinkedIn company pagesPersonal profiles work now. Company pages wait on LinkedIn's Community Management API approval.
TikTokThe adapter is finished and the app is in TikTok's sandbox, waiting on the Content Posting API audit. Not connectable yet.
YouTubeUploading works, but the two YouTube permissions are sensitive and Google has not verified the app, so the connect screen shows an "unverified app" warning. Not recommended yet.
PinterestOne channel per board, ready and waiting on Pinterest standard access.
XNot available. X charges per post since 2026, so it will be a metered add-on rather than part of a plan.

Bluesky and Mastodon need no approval from anyone and work today.

Reconnecting and disconnecting

The calendar shows a health strip: Connected, Expiring soon (within seven days), Needs reconnect or Demo. To reconnect, start the same connect flow again — nothing about your posts, approvals or review links changes.

Disconnect on the channels page deletes the stored tokens straight away. The channel's history stays, and a disconnected channel does not count toward your plan's channel limit. Revoking PlanSend inside the network's own settings as well is a good habit.

Common questions

Can PlanSend post to a personal Instagram account?
No. Instagram only allows scheduled publishing from a professional account — Business or Creator — that is linked to a Facebook Page you manage. Switching account type is free and takes a minute inside the Instagram app.
Does connecting an account give PlanSend access to my messages?
No. PlanSend asks for the narrowest set of permissions that lets it publish and confirm a post went live. It never asks for inbox, direct message or advertising permissions.
What happens to scheduled posts if I disconnect a channel?
Disconnecting deletes the stored tokens immediately. Posts already scheduled for that channel stay on the calendar but fail when the publisher reaches them, so reconnect the channel before their time or cancel them.
