Why was my Instagram image rejected for its aspect ratio?

Instagram only accepts images between 0.8:1 (four wide by five tall) and 1.91:1 (wide landscape). A 9:16 story-shaped image is outside that range. Crop it to portrait 4:5, square or landscape and attach it again.

Does PlanSend resize my images for each network?

No. The file you upload is the file that is published, which is why a size or ratio problem is reported when you schedule rather than silently re-cropped. Resizing per network is planned but not built.

Where do I add alt text?

On each image in the composer, up to 500 characters. PlanSend sends it to Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon and Pinterest. Instagram does not accept alt text through its publishing API, so add it in the Instagram app afterwards if you need it.

Images and video: what each network accepts

PlanSend checks your files against each network's rules when you schedule, not when the post goes out. These are the limits it enforces.

What you can upload

Images: JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP, up to 8 MB each.
Video: MP4 or MOV, up to 200 MB each.
Per post: up to 10 files, reusable across posts from the brand's media library.

Files are uploaded straight from your browser to our storage. Videos are then inspected on the server to read their true dimensions and duration, so a mislabelled file is caught early: an unreadable video is rejected with a message asking you to export it as MP4 or MOV and upload it again.

Every one of these is checked when you schedule. The message names the channel, the file and the fix, for example Instagram image 1 is 1080×1920; crop it to an aspect ratio between 0.8:1 and 1.91:1.

Alt text

Each image has an alt text field, up to 500 characters, in the composer. Write what the image shows for people who cannot see it. PlanSend passes it to Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon and Pinterest. Instagram's publishing API does not accept it, so alt text for Instagram has to be added in the Instagram app after the post is live.

Reusing and deleting files

Every upload stays in the brand's media library and can be attached to another post without uploading it again. Removing a file from a post does not delete it. Deleting it for good is refused while a scheduled or publishing post still uses it — cancel that post first.

If uploads are unavailable

If the composer says media uploads need storage credentials, that environment has no file storage configured. On plansend.io uploads are available to every plan; if you see this message on the live site, email [email protected].
